Is an air source heat pump right for my home?

An air source heat pump is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint however it is not suitable for every home. Air source heat pumps work by drawing heat from the air outside which is then directed to a hot water cylinder and radiators or underfloor heating. Heat pumps work best in new builds and homes that have been fully insulated. Not quite ready for a heat pump? Explore our range of hydrogen ready boilers.

How The Air Source Heat Pump Works

An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air and transfers it indoors for heating. It uses a refrigeration cycle, involving a compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator, to absorb and release heat. In heating mode, the refrigerant evaporates in the outdoor unit, absorbing heat from the air. The compressor increases the temperature, and the hot refrigerant releases heat in the indoor unit. The process is reversible for cooling, making air source heat pumps energy-efficient for both heating and cooling purposes.

The benefits of installation an air source heat pump are extensive, covering a multitude of consequential factors.

  • Energy Efficiency: Lower energy consumption compared to traditional heating systems.
